The American Diabetes Association is seeking a Manager of Grassroots and Internal Advocacy to join the Associations Government Affairs and Advocacy team. The incumbent will implement and manage a variety of activities designed to engage and inspire Diabetes Advocates across the country to further the Association's advocacy goals of:
* Increasing federal and state funding for diabetes prevention, treatment and research;
* Preventing diabetes;
* Improving the availability of accessible, adequate and affordable health care; and
* Eliminating discrimination against people with diabetes at school, work, and elsewhere in their lives.

Essential functions include:
* In conjunction with the Managing Director of Grassroots and Internal Advocacy and other team members, executing overall strategy for grassroots & grasstops advocate recruitment, engagement, cultivation, training and development.
* In conjunction with the grassroots team, federal and state lobbying teams and the legal advocacy team, planning and implementing grassroots campaigns on specific legislative and legal advocacy issues.
* Creating and executing compelling online action alerts and content for taking action, developing and implementing grassroots strategies using social media, and tracking the success of such efforts.
* Assist in planning and executing federal lobbying and training events (including bi-annual fly-in lobbying event) and providing support for state lobby days.
* Developing and maintaining advocacy content for Association website.
* Assist in developing resources and training materials for grasstops advocates.
* Managing National Youth Advocate program to further involvement among youth.
* Gathering and analyzing information and data to determine success of efforts and areas for improvement
* Serving as initial point of contact for all communications sent in to grassroots email address and responds to constituents accordingly.
* Integrating advocacy initiatives throughout the Association.
* Working with other internal department and external consultants

REQUIREMENTS:
* Passion for advocacy.
* Bachelors degree, plus at least three years of experience in public policy, e-communications, grassroots activism, and/or a related field.
* Experience using online tools for issue advocacy or candidate campaigning, including knowledge of and ability to work within Convio CRM and CMS platforms. Experience using webinars for volunteer training preferred.
* Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to analyze and synthesize information.
* Ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple projects.
* Ability to work with a diverse group of volunteers and staff.
* Good customer service skills
