West Marine the largest retailer of boating supplies and apparel in the nation has an exciting employment opportunity for a qualified Media Buyer and Marketing Manager in our Watsonville, CA. location.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Manage the media strategy (with Sr. Manager), execute all buys and manage the budget for all pubs, grand opening, yellow page and any other marketing campaigns that require non-direct mail media. Manage all grand opening, closure, transfer and major store marketing event plans through execution. Help senior manager with new marketing research if time allows. Reporting to support marketing events is also required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
45% - Plan, Execute Buys and Manage Budget for all Media (non-Direct Mail)
*Strategize, plan, buy and manage media budgets
*Provide monthly reconciliation and reporting
*Audit invoices for accuracy and put through all invoices on timely manner
*Negotiate best rates and execute all media buys
*Produce insertion orders
*Traffic all radio spots
*Set up all turn ins with CS and put together turn in materials
*Marquette Group/Yellow Pages
*Manage strategy and online site and confirm that store openings and transfers get updated
*Approves yellow page advertisements that fall within criteria set for 2012 approvals
*Develop yellow page strategy for 2012 and beyond.
*Develop POV on where WM should be in terms of Yellow Pages. Need a usability report comparing books to internet.
35% - Grand Opening and Store Transfer Planning and Execution
*Use marketing calendar to schedule GO dates and production timelines.
*Develop detailed roadmap for Standard, Large and Flagship Grand Openings
*Work with CS and Merchants to develop solid creative vehicles to announce GO and drive traffic over GO weekend.
*Get GO's on a strict schedule delivering materials to CS, Stores, Merchants on-time and complete.
*Develops strategies for evaluating and executing store opening and transfer marketing.
*Follow process and timeline for store transfers and closures.
*Manage all GO marketing conference calls and materials
*Manage all premiums, vendor giveaways, rentals, PODS, parking lot maps and landlord approvals for GOs
15% - National/Major Store Events
*Plan and develop a complete schedule of all major store events (e.g.: Tent Sales, Spring Kick-Offs, National Safe Boating Week, World Ocean's Day, Summer Sailstice,etc. . .)
*Determine and strategize event focus, regional and which national. Add to marketing calendar and production schedule. Turn-in information and space request to CS on a monthly basis. Turn in email requests and content where appropriate.
*Work with Promotions Manager on Store communications.
*Analyze and track results. Suggest improvements and whether events should be repeated or not.
5% Research New Marketing
*Help Senior Marketing Manager research new marketing avenues (social, QR codes, mobile, etc. . .) as needed.
*Develop POV and suggestions on how best WM could benefit from their use.
THIS YEAR:
1. Take over and run media strategy plan, execute buys and manage budget for all media (non-Direct Mail)
2. Take over and run grand opening, store closure and transfer planning through execution while improving
process year over year.
3. Manage the budget to plan, measure effectiveness and developing reporting around all marketing activities
4. Research new marketing opportunities and vendor benchmarking, write recommendations help develop
strategy and plans.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:
*BS/BA in Marketing Business
*3+ years of Media Buying (radio, tv, newspaper) and Marketing (or related) experience.
*Excellent PC skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
*Detail-oriented with excellent planning and organizational skills
*Solid Project management skills are critical to success
*Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
*Ability to plan, execute and analyze large scale projects and budgets.
*Travel 0-5%
