Operations Deputy Director

The NTC Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, is the steward, on behalf of the City of San Diego, of 27 historic buildings within the former Naval Training Center-San Diego designated for development as a civic, arts and cultural district ("NTC at Liberty Station"). To date, 7 buildings have been rehabilitated and house more than 40 resident groups including civic, arts and cultural non-profit organizations, dance companies, museums, galleries, instructional and design studios, creative retail, food and beverage, and other uses. Currently 8 additional buildings are under rehabilitation with opening dates in spring 2012. The NTC Foundation leases indoor and outdoor venues within the campus for a wide variety of meetings and events--including major conferences, trade shows, community events and private functions.

The NTC Foundation's responsibilities include real estate development, property management, leasing, marketing, sales and support of event venues, and collaboration with resident groups to create and sustain NTC as a major regional arts and cultural destination.

Operations Deputy Director's Position

As a key member of the Operations team, the Operations Deputy Director reports to the Operations Director and assumes a management role in the Operations Department of the Foundation. The Operations Department has primary day-to-day responsibility for managing all aspects of the NTC Foundation's physical plant, including maintenance, custodial, client services, events, security and Emergency Preparedness and Evacuation Plan.

Responsibilities

Operations Deputy Director Duties, Responsibilities and Skills

Provide operational and administrative leadership to Operations department staff

Effectively utilize staff (employees and contractors) to maximize output while containing costs to meet business objectives

Direct and ensure that service level timelines and quality criteria are met for all assigned areas of responsibility; exhibit strong understanding of customer service

Assist in planning, directing, coordinating and budgeting for the facilities, including hiring personnel

Administer policies and procedures for events and coordinate activities and events with the Venue Sales and Marketing department

Supervise the facilities usage, operations, equipment maintenance, etc.

Oversee use and management of audio-visual equipment used within the event venues

Interact pleasantly and effectively with tenants, clients, the public, and other NTC Foundation staff

Oversee and direct maintenance personnel and workers engaged in equipment installation, facilities equipment repair and preventive maintenance

Assist in preparing and maintaining annual budget for buildings use and facilities maintenance

Qualifications and Requirements

5+ years of related experience including 2 years of supervisory experience

Event Management and/or AV experience strongly preferred

Experience managing multiple and multi-use facilities

Familiarity with computer Event Scheduling & Management systems

Construction/Maintenance experience strongly preferred

Valid CA driver's license

Weekend and evening work required to complement schedule of Operations Director

High-level PC proficiency essential

IT Management experience desired
