Google San Francisco User Experience Opportunities
With the lights of Oakland and the Berkeley Hills to our East, the home of the SF Giants within walking distance, and the bustling life of the SoMa (South of Market) neighborhood right outside, Google's San Francisco office is located in the hot spot for the city's tech companies. Easily accessible via SF MUNI and BART, the San Francisco Office is home to Google.org, Engineering, Product, Advertising Sales and Operations, DoubleClick, and Corporate Communications. Having an office here allows us to not only be more responsive to our users and customers, but also helps us to nurture client relationships with San Francisco-based companies.
Creativity and innovation drive our SF office. Our San Francisco engineers work on a range of projects including developer products (Google App Engine) and programs (code.google.com and advocacy), cluster management, site reliability engineering, Gmail, enterprise applications, security engineering & operations, internal sales applications, and infrastructure quantitative research.
Other Googlers in San Francisco work on initiatives that are just as varied. Our Google.org team is focused on renewable energy, fostering economic growth in developing countries, and a range of other projects. Our Advertising Sales, Operations, and DoubleClick teams help clients -- from Fortune 100 companies to local mom-and-pop shops to ad agencies -- attract customers using Google solutions.
Just like the beautiful city by the bay, the SF Office is dynamic and exciting and we hope to see you here soon!
Engineering teams in our Boston office work on large scale distributed systems, performance tuning, web applications and mobile platforms. At all times, we match projects with our employees' background and interests. Boston engineers are experts in C++, Java, AJAX and HTML and are currently focusing on these key areas:
Search Quality
We parse user queries, select and rank matching pages, and summarize results for the user. We have a team of experts who are world-renowned experts in a variety of technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), data mining, machine learning and information retrieval and extraction. Ever wonder how Google Book Search works? We help make that happen!
Web Applications
We work on products that our users love! These include Image Search, Friend Connect, and other next generation social networking applications that are too cool to talk about yet!
Infrastructure and Application Back-Ends
We have teams working on key components of the Google infrastructure such as the Google File System, Big Table and MapReduce. These groups focus on distributed computing, large-scale infrastructure, content delivery and network performance tuning. Our team also helps to make Youtube and Google Video bigger and better. It's so exciting that you probably won't believe it's work!
Mobile
We are developing applications to make your mobile computing experience better. We can't get into too much detail about the specifics but it's safe to say you'll find it very interesting!
Clients
We also work on projects to make browsing the web faster and better, including Chrome and Chrome OS.
We follow a simple but vital premise in the User Experience group: "Focus on the user and all else will follow." We're passionately interested in our users and strive to learn everything we can about their behaviors, attitudes and emotions to help define the products and experiences we create. The User Experience team is a critical driving force behind gathering these insights and then using them to inspire and inform design. We are a multi-disciplinary team of interaction designers, visual designers, user researchers, copywriters and Web developers who collaborate closely with each other and with engineering and product management to create innovative, usable, great-looking products that people love to use.
