Full Time Position (1.0 FTE)


Lakeside is an independent coeducational day school located on a beautiful campus in North Seattle. We are currently recruiting for a graphic designer which is a full-time, year-round staff appointment that reports to the director of communications.

The Graphic Designer will draw on strong creative, conceptual and visual communication skills to help us communicate the mission and work of the school to various constituencies (alumni, faculty, staff, parents, students, public). She/he will maintain and grow the in-house digital imagery database, be responsible for basic in-house photography and videography, and work with communications staff to develop the school's sophistication in visual messaging.

Responsibilities:

The graphic designer will work in a highly collaborative department. Specific responsibilities for this position include:

Graphic Design

Provide in-house graphic design services for selected Lakeside School projects, including publications, brochures, event programs and posters, invitations, and infographics.

Coordinate with external graphic designers and/or printers on projects, including soliciting quotes, performing color checks, ensuring timely delivery of materials, processing invoices, etc.

Collaborate with other communications staff to produce digital materials, including videos and slideshows.

Imagery Management
Maintain in-house digital imagery database.

Produce, edit, and manage electronic images.

Assist Lakeside administrators, staff, and faculty to select photography appropriate to their needs, and in line with the communications strategy of Lakeside School.

Establish guidelines for how we collect, process, and distribute digital imagery that is produced across the school (by groups including parents, students, staff, and faculty).

Photography/Videography

Photograph and shoot video of campus events.

Process and edit photography and video for use in print and digital communications as well as archival purposes.

Work with the director of communications to assess professional-level photography and videography needs. Coordinate with outside photo/videographers to schedule shoots, coordinate with Lakeside faculty and staff whose work might be affected, supervise shoots, ensure we receive materials in a timely fashion, process and file photography.

Under supervision, update guidelines for photographer and videographer contractors.

Additional Responsibilities

Order fulfillment for communications materials, commencement DVDs and school pictures.

Provide additional support to communications projects as needed.

Requirements:

A bachelor's degree is required; ideally, coursework and/or the degree program(s) will have emphasized communications, graphic design, and/or visual communications. Applicants should have a minimum of three years of successful experience working in a marketing or communications department, or a related field.

The successful candidate will possess an outstanding attention to detail, demonstrated ability to multi-task, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to communicate design ideas to non-design-oriented professionals. Candidates should be able to balance independent work and self-management with a strong collaborative approach.

Computer (PC/Windows and/or Macintosh platforms) proficiency is required. Candidates must possess an advanced ability with Adobe Creative Suite, as well experience shooting and editing a broad range of photography and video. Additional creative software expertise (video, audio, etc.) is a strong plus.

Candidates should submit a cover letter, resume, and a portfolio containing five to 10 examples of design projects and detailing their role in each. Work products should demonstrate an understanding of the principles and practices of marketing and/or public relations; experience in desktop publishing; and strong design skills. Interviewed candidates will be asked to submit three to five references in addition to these materials. References should address the candidate's ability to meet deadlines; to be poised and articulate in a variety of settings; to possess a good sense of humor, and to work collaboratively, effectively, and harmoniously with other adults in an educational setting.
