Overview of Internship:

This internship will provide exposure to proactive media relations, strategic communications, press release writing and cross-promotional opportunities, all aimed toward promoting the Fair Trade Certified label and increasing consumer awareness. Special focus will be on keeping abreast of news trends for editorial opportunities, tracking media coverage, blog writing and developing an effective social media strategy. All tasks will help you to prepare for a career in public relations, corporate communication and marketing. Successful interns will complete the program with several professional work samples and a glowing letter of recommendation

Primary responsibilities may include any or all of the following:

Support with writing, media pitching and fulfillment around promotional campaigns

Social media planning and execution

Writing and/or editing farmer impact reports and the Fair Trade USA blog

Tracking and reporting media coverage

Assisting with press inquiries, including fact-checking and research

Coordinating grassroots on community-focused PR efforts

Requirements:

Candidates must display excellent verbal and written English communication skills, as well as a keen interest in learning more about public relations and the sustainable food industry. A writing sample will be required as part of the application process. Organizational skills a must. Experience or training in any of the following would also be helpful: press release writing, journalism and graphic design.

Schedule: 10 or more hours/week for a minimum of 3 months

Position is located in Downtown Oakland, remote work arrangement may be possible under certain circumstances.
