About the Senior Developer position

Senior Developers at Tag are focused on creating the coded solutions for our clients. They have a higher level of experience in the languages and platforms they are developing on than Developers, and as such may be staffed independently on engagements where the technical deliverables fall within their area of expertise.

The Senior Developer will likely be tasked to implement code with less detailed direction compared to a Developer working off of guidelines rather than specific instructions, a Senior Developer will utilize their experience developing within a given system to determine the proper course of action to meet the intended goals. Developers at this level will potentially identify more as either a specialist (deep level of experience within a language, platform, type of solution) or a generalist (very wide level of experience to draw off of as needed across languages / platforms / solutions).

Department & Supervisor

The Developer is a member of TNM's Technology Team and reports to the Director of Technology.

Key Responsibilities
Responsible for coding the execution of complex designs and interactions that reflect the creative and art direction provided
Able to operate independently, with directional guidance, to produce high quality coded deliverables
Works well as a team member on large accounts, understanding how a team operates and what is expected of the various roles on the project
When paired with less-senior developers, able to provide directional guidance and specifics as it pertains to coding solutions
Able to shift between a creative and a technical focus depending on the project need and/or the type of project
Establishes the course of action for discrete aspects of a project work, or for the development effort in general on smaller projects
May need to rapidly produce interim deliverables (such as style guide components, technical specifications, browser and market analysis, prototypes, proofs of concept, etc.) in addition to the final live site or application
Able to take initiative to research and learn emerging technologies
Skills & Qualifications
4+ years experience hand-coding HTML / JavaScript / CSS
3+ years experience using tools and libraries for client-side development, specifically JavaScript libraries (jQuery, Dojo, YUI, MooTools, etc) utilizing XHR (Ajax) and CSS approaches to layout, browser compatibility, UI interaction, and media solutions
2+ years demonstrated working experience with least one commonly used web scripting / templating technology (PHP, Java, .Net, Ruby, AS3/Flash/Flex, XML/XSLT, etc)
Working knowledge and/or practical experience using at least 2 other technologies listed in the item above strongly preferred
2+ years of direct experience working with the fundamental technologies involved in LAMP-stack development
Demonstrable applied experience using using object-oriented programming (OOP) techniques and model-view-controller MVC systems
Experienced in implementing Search Engine Optimization, Web Accessibility, and i18n techniques
Experience with Agile / iterative development methodologies preferred
Familiarity with current best practices within their areas of technical experience
Ability to do graphic production work from designed page comps (PSDs)
Demonstrated ability to accurately estimate and scope development work for themselves and also less-senior developers
Strong attention to detail
Strong written and verbal communication skills
User Interface Design, Information Architecture, graphic design experience a plus
Experience developing solutions for mobile, web or applications, strongly preferred
Experience using one or more of the following products, frameworks, or platforms strongly preferred:
PHP: Zend Framework, Drupal, WordPress, Code Igniter, etc
Java: struts, tiles, JSF, Velocity, etc
.NET: Sharepoint, Commerce Server, etc
Flash: AS3, Flex, BlazeDS, Flash Remoting, Flash Media Server, Red5, etc
CMS products: Sitecore, TeamSite, CQ5, MSCMS, StoryServer, Alfresco, etc
Client/Server communication: XHR/JSON, WSDL, XML-RPC, SOAP/SSDL, etc
DBs: MySQL, Oracle, DB2, MSSQL, etc

Candidates will be asked to provide links and/or code samples that demonstrate their experience coding web sites and internet applications.
