WNYC Radio seeks an Associate Producer to join a tremendously creative staff that serves a passionate, diverse audience and produces an unparalleled product. Reporting to a Senior Producer at Radiolab, the Associate Producer will be a vital part of the Radiolab Production team.

The Associate Producer must have production experience and a high degree of comfort working flexibly with an Editorial team. The ability to structure a story, clearly convey the key points, and skill to edit audio tape is key. The successful candidate will be a good storyteller, demonstrating fearlessness in pursuit of information, and strong instincts for finding great voices, resulting in stellar tape. An inquisitive nature and an ability to work in a tightly-knit team are required. The Associate Producer will spend a majority of their time working in tape. Other primary tasks may include reporting, research, and writing. The Production Assistant must be a self-starter; and thrive in a collaborative, innovation-focused work environment.

Responsibilities:

Cut interview and tracking tape

Assemble audio clips to be the aural version of print scripts

Report and produce pieces

Propose scripts/segments from interviews performed by our hosts and others

Assist with research for story ideas, booking guests, arranging logistics (such as tape syncs, ISDNS, travel plans)

Research and create proposals for new story ideas, interview guests, and show themes

Must be able to travel as required for reporting and recording

Write and edit material and prepare audio for broadcast

Assist during tapings and digital audio production for the show

Perform occasional field reporting and/or recording

Work on other special projects and duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree required

Science, science communication or science journalism experience preferred

Three years journalism, print and/or broadcast experience required

Demonstrated research skills required

Experience organizing and publicizing events

Experience working with sound recordings; digital audio editing experience and protools skills preferred

Previous radio production experience recommended

Ability to prioritize and handle several projects at once

Sound organizational skills, with great attention to detail required

Ability to meet objectives under deadline pressure

Requires ability to work in a group environment and to take direction well

Must be able to work in a studio broadcast and/or office environment; must be able to work remotely on occasion

Ability to establish and sustain a wide variety of community and industry relationships that are essential to the show's success

Team player and effective collaborator

Experience working with live-audience programs preferred
