Be the change in a small public school. Teach in a New Visions public school today! New Visions for Public Schools is seeking passionate teachers in ELA, Social Studies, Music, and Phys Ed who want to work in small, progressive schools. Working with the NYC Department of Education, New Visions is a network of 79 public schools across the 5 boroughs that benefit from the focus, resources, and development opportunities afforded to smaller, more intimate learning communities.
We currently have several positions available at schools in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Queens. Please see below for descriptions of each individual position and school.
1. JOHN ADAMS HIGH SCHOOL (Queens): Music / Social Studies / Spanish / ESL / English / Phys. Ed
Information about the school: The vision of John Adams High School is to foster a collaborative, nurturing and supportive environment in which all students can exceed the standards of performance in preparation for successful lives. Our mission in support of achieving this vision is to: provide the students and staff with a safe and orderly environment; encourage teachers and staff to continue to obtain quality continuing education; obtain support by exploring community-based collaborations; provide assistance to at-risk, English Language Learners (ELL) and Instructional Support Services (ISS) students through Academic Intervention Services (AIS) and the New Continuum.

2. EAST BRONX ACADEMY FOR THE FUTURE (Bronx): high school Social Studies leave-replacement with the potential for hire next year
Information about the school: East Bronx Academy for the Future is a technology-based school for students in grades 6 through 12. Our students learn the content and skills required by the New York State Board of Regents combined with project-based learning and a focus on using technology in the classroom. Students learn in small classes, using computers and doing hands-on projects. Accelerated students take college courses in partnership with Lehman College. Bronx Academy students graduate from high school ready for college and the world of work. Our graduates are linked to careers that employ technology, such as journalism, the arts, engineering, architecture, and urban planning.

3. BRONX LEADERSHIP ACADEMY II (Bronx): High School ELA
Information about the school: The mission of Bronx Leadership Academy II is to provide exemplary science-based college preparatory education. Students' natural curiosity will guide the open-ended process of discovery and critical thinking, helping them to become life-long learners. Through the lens of scientific inquiry, BLA II students will explore all aspects of the curricula. Students will be encouraged to achieve their potential as creators, inventors, and leaders of the 21st century.

4. BROOKLYN SCHOOL FOR MUSIC AND THEATRE (Brooklyn): ELA / SPED
Information about the school: The Brooklyn School for Music and Theatre's academic program accommodates the intellectual, social, emotional and physical needs of creative high school students. Our vision is to provide a model of a professional environment where respect is mutual, ideas are shared and learning is not limited to the classroom. 5. LYONS COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL (Brooklyn): ELA or SPED to be filled immediately, but with the potential to turn into a full-time position for the 2012-2013 school year.
Information about the school: Lyons Community School provides a broad, stimulating experience in the liberal arts, preparing students for college, healthy adulthood, and life-long learning. Our Field Studies program integrates weekly field trips for all students into a challenging Regents-based curriculum. Students have regular conferences with their faculty advisor in order to discuss academic goals and progress. A wide array of elective classes allows students to pursue their individual academic interests and goals. Courses taught by visiting artists and a solid physical wellness program (including sports, fitness, and dance) support our mission of building "mens sana in corpore sano"--a sound mind in a sound body.

6. BROOKLYN BRIDGE ACADEMY (Brooklyn): ELA
Information about the School: The Brooklyn Bridge Academy (BBA) in partnership with FEGS Health and Human Services System is a small learning community for students who have been truant or who have dropped out of high school. Our comprehensive program includes a challenging academic schedule that maximizes the number of credits that students can earn and prepares them to pass Regents exams. The school staff will engage and support students to make informed choices about their learning and their lives through opportunities for counseling, access to health care, and employment support. Through our partnerships our school offers a demanding and personalized environment with high expectations for students 16 years old and older who are committed to earning their high school diploma.

7. BUSINESS OF SPORTS SCHOOL (Manhattan): Global Studies
Information about the school: We are a new small Career & Technical Education (CTE) high school. We expect our students to learn the fundamentals of business and entrepreneurship and to graduate prepared for careers as business analysts, marketers, entrepreneurs, and journalists. Students will also have opportunities for real-world learning in the sports management industry through internships and other job-related activities. Our graduates will also earn industry certifications in Microsoft Office and Workforce Readiness.
