Under the direction of the Arts and Education Director the Digital Photography Instructor is directly responsible for the instruction and safety of participants under their direction. In addition, the Digital Photography Instructor will be responsible for classroom management (including supplies), class promotion and outside participation in professional artistic endeavors. The goal of the classes is organic, not necessarily to produce great artists, but to produce great minds open to artistic thinking. The candidate will be instrumental in helping the Arts and Education department achieve the associations goals and objectives to provide a safe environment for all participants while ensuring superior member service. The job requires knowledge of a commitment to our mission, our values and our cause: strengthening communities through Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility.
Principle Responsibilities:
An individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
The successful candidate will:
1. Actively participate in program development and enrichment.
The Digital Photography Instructor, under the guidance of the Arts and Education Director will develop and implement class curriculums that are complimentary to the YMCA Arts and Education Departments mission and practice.
2. Actively participate in the management and administration of class.
The Digital Photography Instructor with in a team of other instructors and under the guidance of the Arts and Education Director will manage class rosters, wait lists, and supply inventory and classroom management.
Skills Overview
The Digital Photography Instructor candidate must possess and exhibit good musical skills (able to demonstrate abilities at least on their primary instrument and voice) self-promotion skills, strong organizational skills, self-motivation and experience and talent teaching others. The ideal candidate will also have hands on experience with many aspects of teaching. The Digital Photography Instructor candidate must be musically active on a professional level, and have resume experience showing their work. All applicants will audition either in the classroom, recording or performance and a resume outlining not only their professional music experience but also teaching experience. .The candidate needs to be a high energy dynamic individual able to engage people from many different artistic (or non artistic) backgrounds. This candidate needs to be a self promoter and can raise their own class following. The ideal candidate will be great with children and have experience with childhood learning theory.
Education/Experience:
Bachelor Degree from a four-year college or university is preferred; and one to three years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
All staff are required to complete New Employee Orientation Child Abuse Prevention; OSHA and
Emergency Procedures Training prior to employment beginning

Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The work is performed primarily indoors, and may require occasional travel to the various branches or sites of the South Shore YMCA or travel for training or conferences. While performing the duties of this job the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
